House Rules Committee Continues Health Reform Charade

On April 6, the House Rules Committee considered a new amendment to the American Health Care Act (AHCA). The proposed amendment does nothing to address the overwhelming concerns voiced by the public and health policy experts, and many think it is just an effort by the GOP leadership to keep the bill alive as members get ready to recess and head home to their constituents. Frederick Isasi of Families USA calls it “a Band-Aid on a terrible proposal” and “an attempt to pretend [House Republicans] are actually doing something.” Statistics have shown that the majority of Americans do not like the AHCA bill because it aims to destroy private coverage protections and Medicaid coverage, and this amendment related to reinsurance simply will not change that.
